Current Projects
Information coming soon.
Proposed Projects
Information coming soon.
Silvies Corridor Cooperative Weed
Management
The Silvies River Corridor has been selected for treatment of both the “ A”
and “B” listed noxious weeds on the County Noxious Weed List. This project is
divided into three sections with the northern most section of the corridor
beginning treatment Fall of 2005. Silvies Area One is all properties with in ¼
mile of the Silvies River Corridor above Stancliff Lane. Treatment below
Stancliff Lane will begin in 2006 and continue south to Malheur lake. Grant
funds from the Oregon Department of Agriculture, Oregon Department of Fish and
Wildlife, Oregon watershed Enhancement Board, and US Fish and Wildlife Service
have been applied for. The BLM, Harney County Weed Board, Harney Soil &Water
Conservation District, and the Harney County Cooperative Weed Management Area
Partnership have all been petitioned to support the project with In-Kind funds.
Funding is for inventory and treatment. Any landowner or operator who would like
more information on how to qualify for this project please Contact the Harney
County Weed Department at weedcontrol@co.harney.or.us call 541-573-8385 or stop by the office. This
project is a cost-share program.
Drewsey White Top Project
This project involves the Upper Malheur Watershed area and is dealing
specifically with the control of white top. Funds are currently being sought
from the Oregon Department of Agriculture with In-Kind funds being sought from
the County, Oregon Department of Agriculture, BLM and Harney Soil & Water
Conservation District. These funds are for inventory and treatment. This project
is to start Fall of 2005.Any landowner or operator who would like more
information on how to qualify for this project please Contact the Harney County
Weed Department at weedcontrol@co.harney.or.us call 541-573-8385 or stop by the office. This
project is a cost-share program.
Crane/Drewsey Attack on Medusahead
The Crane/Drewsey Attack on Medusahead Project is in the process of gathering
funds to begin work. This proposal is backed by the Harney County Cooperative
Weed Management Area Partnership. There are cash and In-Kind contributions being
sought from the Mule Deer Foundation, Foundation of North American Wild Sheep,
The Harney Soil & Water Conservation District, Oregon Department of Fish and
Wildlife, USDA-ARS, Landowners, BLM, Harney County Watershed Council, Oregon
Department of Agriculture, Oregon watershed Enhancement Board, ODFW Access and
Habitat, and the Harney County Weed Department with more entities being applied
to for funding. The project area encompasses thousands of acres of private land
for treatment outside of the contaminant zone of medusahead rye. Target
treatment areas are satellite sites that have a 20% or greater canopy cover of
desired vegetation to encourage self re-vegetation.
Medusahead Rye is a very aggressive grass that has a high silica content
making the grass nearly unpalatable to both wildlife and domestic livestock.
This plant has the ability to out compete native/introduced vegetative species
for nutrients making it very difficult to control. The object of this project is
to limit the spread of medusahead, locate, and eradicate/manage satellite sites
outside the contaminant zone. This will allow for better management of the area
and facilitate treatment of larger infested areas in the contaminant zone. Any
landowner or operator who would like more information on how to qualify for this
project please Contact the Harney County Weed Department at weedcontrol@co.harney.or.us call 541-573-8385 or stop by the office. This project is a cost-share program.
